Parents' Pages

We have  been upgraded to ParentMail’s latest platform.

The latest version of ParentMail helps make life for parents much easier; with a single account you can receive newsletters, information and book Parents’ Evenings using ParentMail. For parents, one of the biggest benefits is that you can easily pick up school messages on your smartphone by downloading the free ParentMail App on Android or iOS.

To use the latest version of ParentMail all you need to do is verify your account. You will be sent either an email or text message from ParentMail. If you have both a mobile number and an email address registered on your account, you will receive a registration invitation by text and email. You can decide which way you register – but you will only need to register once.

Further newsletters will be communicated in this way. You can still request a paper copy from the school office, or check on the website for the latest information.

The Government have chosen to tighten up on the amount of discretion Headteacher's are given regarding parental requests for their child to have leave of absence from school and have issued new guidance accordingly. They have also amended regulations which came into force on 1st September 2013.

The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2006 allowed Headteacher's to grant leave of absence for the purpose of a family holiday during term time in "special circumstances" of up to ten school days leave per year. Headteacher's could also grant extended leave for more than ten school days in exceptional circumstances. This however has changed.

Amendments to the 2006 regulations which came into force in September 2013 remove references to family holiday and extended leave as well as the statutory threshold of ten school days. The amendments make clear that Headteacher's may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances e.g. family crisis. Parents can be issued with a Penalty Notice for unauthorised absence.

As a result of these government requirements and information, the Headteacher will no longer be authorising leave of absence for holidays, family occasions, special gatherings etc.  Please can you make written application to withdraw your child from school for any medical appointments during the school day, as soon as you are informed by the relevant department or agency and supply us with a copy of the appointment letter to be stored on your child's file.  Sadly it is no longer enough to inform us verbally as you have done in the past.
