Outdoor Maths Trail
In October, Year 2 completed a maths trail outside in our wonderful woods and on our back field. The focus for our maths trail was all about shape and the activities involved;
Please look through the photographs below to see how much the children enjoyed the morning and some of their creations!
History Focus Day!
In history this term our focus has been on 'What is your personal history? Chronology within living memory and beyond'. The children completed a carousel of activities all about chronology and we discussed the meaning of chronology and why it is so important in history.
We thought about the definitions of the words past, present and future and sorted phrases into the correct sets. For example; We are in Year 2 - in the present. Next year I will go to junior school - in the future. I crawled when I was a baby - in the past. We enjoyed making predictions about the future. The children made some aspirational predictions which were fantastic.
We discussed what a personal history is and whether everyone's personal histories were the same. After looking at and discussing Mrs Ellis' personal timeline, the children created their own timelines, using photographs showing important events in their own lives, which they ordered chronologically, wrote a caption for each photograph and added dates. The children were very proud of their work and enjoyed sharing them with their peers.
We looked at the life of Dame Floella Benjamin and read her book titled 'Coming to England'. We found out that she had moved to England from Trinidad in 1960's, became a television presenter, started her own production company, began a children's charity and campaigned for more diversity. Floella has written over 30 books, has an OBE, is a Dame and has a Baroness title!
We decided that everyone's personal histories were different but they also have similarities .
