Chandler's Ford Infant School

Home learning

At Chandler's Ford Infant School we believe that when learning is integrated between home and school, children grow and learn well.   For this reason, we aim to ensure that any home learning set is clear, succinct and varied in order to suit all learning styles.  Home learning should never be onerous but should support learning that has happened within class.

Home learning remains consistent throughout the child's time at Chandler's Ford Infant School and is as follows:

  • Children will bring a reading book home each day and should spend around 10 minutes reading with an adult.  More information on how your child learns to read can be found here.
  • A Learning Journey home learning overview is sent home at the beginning of the half term.  Children have time to complete this and then return at the end of the half term, when they can share with their teacher.  Paper copies are sent home, however, all Learning Journey homeworks can be found on the yeargroup pages here.
  • From time to time, it may be necessary to send home extra targeted pieces of home learning, for example, if a child is struggling with a particular group of sounds or maths concept.  Teachers will always talk to parents first.
  • All year R home learning is sent through Tapestry.

Please do come and talk to us if you have any questions or issues with any home learning that has been set.  At Chandler's Ford Infant School we work together!

Remote Education Provision

During the recent pandemic, there was a period when school had to be closed.  We are not anticipating a school closure.  However, should that happen, no matter how short or extended, we will set specific home learning.  This will be emailed to parents on the morning of the closure and will include varied activities linked to the children's learning in school.

This learning will also be accessible on the yeargroup pages of the school website, here with clear instructions on how to communicate with the teacher during this time.

Please note that if your child is off school unwell, there is no expectation for them to complete home learning.  Sometimes there needs to be a short period of recovery and rest before returning to school.  However, if you think that your child is well enough then please discuss this with us.
