Chandler's Ford Infant School

Canopy Forest School (Monday PM)

Welcome to Canopy Forest School

Uploaded by Emma Clode

Connection, Growth, Exploration, Sustainability

Monday (3.30-5.15pm) for Y2 children

We believe in providing a classroom with no walls. Where the sky is the limit.

Nature is the teacher and imagination, play and discovery the curriculum.

Self-esteem, well-being, deep connections and a sense of wholeness and joy are the learning outcomes.

Canopy Forest School has been created for the children of Chandler's Ford Infant School who are looking for a deeper connection with nature.

Who will be running these sessions?

The Forest School club will be run by Emma Clode who is  a Level 3 Forest School Leader.  She is also a Year 1 teacher and the Art, Craft and Design, Design Technology and Outdoor learning co-ordinator at Chandler's Ford Infants. Mrs Clode will be assisted by Jo Streat who is also a Level 3 Forest School leader.

Information about Forest School

Forest Schools are run by trained Leaders and aim to build up children's skills, abilities and confidence week by week through practical hands-on activities in the outdoors. It gives them the chance to explore, learn and discover at their own pace in a safe and supportive space. Forest School uses natural resources to stimulate imagination, creativity and investigation.

Activities can include:

  • Woodwork using tools, e.g. making musical instruments, jewellery, decorative items,
  • Natural art
  • Using knots and lashings
  • Shelter building
  • Bug hunts
  • Learning about woodland sustainability

There are many benefits to Forest School.

For example, it can:

  • Develop physical abilities and help participants to stay active and healthy.
  • Heighten self-awareness and improve emotional and social skills.
  • Promote co-operative and group working.
  • Encourage children to take care of themselves and others.
  • Foster care, appreciation and respect for wildlife and wild places.
  • Broaden knowledge and understanding of the natural world.

Our after school sessions are limited to 12 pupils because we would like to keep our child/adult ratio low to ensure high quality teaching and learning. Our Forest school  will run every Monday 3.30-5.15pm across the school year for the same 12 children. The reason behind this is that Forest Schools offer children opportunities for holistic growth through a long-term programme of regular sessions.

This after school club costs £12 per child per session and this can be booked in half term blocks.  All payments must be made online. This price includes snacks and hot and cold drinks. To make sure that the children are happy to commit to our Forest School sessions we offer one free session and then session blocks to enable a small consistent group

We are an Archimedes Earth trained forest school and follow the framework and principles of the Archimedes programme.  We are members of the Forest School Association and all staff are DBS checked, have First Aid or Outdoor First Aid training and we hold a public liability insurance.
